In the weeks leading up to an exciting international travel experience, life can become a blur of procrastination at work, ticking items off your packing list, and excitedly boasting to your friends and family about your awesome adventure that is just around the corner.
However, there is a serious side to travel and we thought we would share our three pre-departure essentials.
1. Travel insurance
We always travel with a comprehensive insurance policy, and everyone who comes on one of our tours, must have this kind of policy. In fact, we take ours out when we book our flights, just in case of flight cancellations. As the old saying goes, 'if you can't afford travel insurance then you can't afford to travel.'
2. Register with DFAT
Registering your travel information with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is an important part of preparing to travel overseas. In case there is an emergency, the Government will be aware of your presence in a particular region and country, and they will be able to contact your family or next of kin.
3. Check your visa
While some countries allow tourists to flow through their borders with no need for a visa application (generally known as visa-on-arrival), some do not. It is essential that you check your visa requirements prior to departure. Visa applications for India, for example, can be a complex and time-consuming process. In India, visa-on-arrival still requires an application prior to arriving in-country.
