5 reasons you should visit India - Meg Allman

1. Why you should visit an old palace full of tourists:  It tells you the story of the place you are visiting. With every marble pillar, intricate doorway and silk painting we pieced together what happened at Hawa Mahal in the past to make Jaipur the place it is today.

2.Why you should shop at street markets:  Because you can find many hidden gems amongst all the chaos. As the group haggled our way through shop after shop, we were dazzled by the show of colours, sequins and jewels. While the sellers hiked the prices, we learnt from our past mistakes and drove a hard bargain. The secret is not wanting anything too badly, such that you are prepared to walk out of a shop multiple times before your price may or may not be met.

3. Why you should drink lassi from a shop on the side of the street:  First off, they're delicious! Second off, after a week living off curries and carbs, your body is very much craving the yoghurty probiotics. We didn't regret one drop of it.

4. Why you should see a Bollywood movie at Raj Mandir with zero subtitles:  It's only the funniest thing you could possibly do - but bring an interpretor!
While enjoying popcorn and Mars Bars, we wondered whether the movie had really started as chatter and movement continued around us. As the main characters' faces filled the screen we were first startled by, and then joined in with, the screams and cheers that came from the audience. Luckily, we had two Hindi speakers in our group to confirm what was going on. We were mesmerised by the costuming, music and storyline of Bajirao Mastaani. I would definitely recommend seeing!

And last but not least...

5. Why you should celebrate your birthday in India with the Young Leaders 'Battalion':  Because after thinking there's nothing that could beat a Bollywood movie in an Indian cinema, they surprise you with chocolate mud cake!

I urge you to reconsider your bucket list and if India isn't near the top add it and go. It will open you a whole new world to you of interactions, culture and lifestyle.
